All That Glitters - Ava Cherry in conversation

Saturday April 23rd - The Kevin Barry Room, National Concert Hall, earlsfort terrace, D2 - Doors: 6.30pm - Adm: €10

We are thrilled to welcome Ava Cherry to our Festival this year for a Q&A, hosted by Hot Press writer Pat Carty. Flying in from Chicago, Ava is also promoting her new autobiography - All That Glitters - a fascinating look at a life of musical inspirations, family allegiances, Catholic education, living on Chicago's South Side and, of course, her time with David Bowie.

Ava found an early path into the world of fashion and entertainment as a young model and when introduced to the flame haired rock star David Bowie in NYC in 1973, her life changed forever. Bowie takes her on tour with the Spiders From Mars and forms a band around her, The Astronettes. After writing an album of tunes for the band - the never released ‘People From Good Homes’ - Bowie moves on but brings Ava and her friend Luther Vandross with him to Philadelphia where they would record the brilliant Young Americans album.

In the 1980s, Ava became backing singer for Vandross and Chaka Khan and mentors a young Whitney Houston while recording her Curtis Mayfield produced debut album ‘Ripe’.

Throughout this memoir, Ava recounts fascinating tales of memorable times spent in the orbit of a multitude of artists such as Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, The Rolling Stones, John Lennon and Yoko Ono and Bob Marley, among many others.
